What to expect from the four-cylinder engine in the 2023 Land Rover Defender

what to expect

The Land Rover Defender offers up to three engine choices depending on the body style and trim level in order to satisfy every buyer. Here is a look at the standard engine in the Defender 90 and Defender 110.

A solid four-cylinder engine

The standard engine that powers the 90 and 110 versions of the 2023 Land Rover Defender is the 2.0L turbocharged four-cylinder engine issued from Land Rover and Jaguar's Ingenium family of modular engines. This means that despite being the entry-level option, this engine is built to the same standards as every other engine that can be ordered on the Defender. In addition, the 2.0L engine has proven itself in a number of Jaguar and Land Rover vehicles over the last few years, which means that its durability is not a cause for concern, even in the harsh conditions many Defender models are driven in all-year round.

An efficient engine

The 2.0L engine found in the P300 versions of the 2023 Land Rover Defender benefits from many of the latest technologies in terms of engine development, which contributes to making it very efficient. For example, this engine is equipped with a direct injection fuel system that maximizes the power that can be produced from every drop of fuel by making for more efficient combustion in each cylinder. The use of the standard auto start/stop system is also responsible for making the engine even more efficient since it is able to turn it off at stop lights and turn it back on again as soon as the driver releases the brakes in order to save fuel that would go to waste when the vehicle isn't moving.

A healthy power output

Even if it is the least powerful that can be had in the 2023 Land Rover Defender, the turbocharged four-cylinder engine is capable of delivering 296 horsepower and 295 lb-ft of torque, which is more than enough to power the Defender on and off the road, especially since the maximum torque is available between 1,500 and 4,500 RPM.
