2017-2021 Range Rover Sport Engine Guide

three reasons to consider

The Range Rover Sport has always been one of the most popular midsize luxury SUVs in Canada and when it comes to buying a pre-owned luxury sport utility vehicle, the Range Rover Sport is always a very appealing option. In 2017, the Range Rover Sport received a significant refresh that brought along with it new technologies and a revamped interior to go along with a long list of available powertrains.

Here is everything you want to know about the engines offered in pre-owned Range Rover Sport models from 2017 or 2021.

There are multiple engine options in pre-owned Range Rover Sport models. Here is an overview of the powertrains that you will find from 2017 to 2021. Note that not all of these engines are available every year, as Range Rover engineers have worked very hard year after year to improve the efficiency and performance of their engine lineup.

3.0-litre supercharged V6

This engine was the base powertrain from 2017 to 2019. The 3.0-litre supercharged V6 delivers 340 horsepower and 332 pound-feet of torque in base pre-owned Range Rover Sport models while HSE models get the same engine and torque, but with 380 horsepower.

Mild-hybrid turbocharged 3.0-litre inline-6

In 2020 and 2021, pre-owned Range Rover Sport models switched out the 3.0-litre supercharged V6 for a mild-hybrid 3.0-litre turbocharged inline-six that delivers 355 horsepower and 365 pound-feet of torque. Power increased to 395 horsepower and 406 pound-feet of torque in HST trims.

Turbodiesel 3.0-litre V6

A turbodiesel 3.0-litre V6 was offered on the Range Rover Sport from 2017 to 2021. Horsepower numbers remained the same from 2017 to 2021 with 254 horsepower, while torque increased from 440 pound-feet to 443 pound-feet of torque starting in 2018.

Plug-in hybrid engine

Starting in 2020, the Range Rover Sport came with a plug-in hybrid engine. The PHEV engine in pre-owned Range Rover Sport models is a combination of a 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder with an electric motor. Total output is rated at 398 horsepower and 472 pound-feet of torque while total electric range is rated at around 30 kilometres.

Supercharged 5.0-litre V8

In the most powerful pre-owned Range Rover Sport models, you find a supercharged 5.0-litre V8 with 510 horsepower and 461 pound-feet of torque in 2017. This same engine was offered starting in 2018 with 518 horsepower and 461 pound-feet of torque. SVR models take the same engine but boost output to 575 horsepower and 516 pound-feet of torque.
